How It Works:
- Magnetization: The pipe end is magnetized using either a yoke, coils, or head shot methods (circular or longitudinal magnetization).
- Application of Magnetic Particles: Fluorescent magnetic particles, suspended in a liquid carrier, are applied to the surface.
- Detection Under UV Light: Under ultraviolet (UV-A) light (typically ~365 nm), the fluorescent particles gather at leakage fields caused by surface defects, making the flaws highly visible.
Key Components:
- Magnetizing unit: Applies magnetic field to the pipe end.
- Fluorescent particle bath system: Applies and recycles the inspection medium.
- UV-A light source: For fluorescence inspection.
- Demagnetizer: Optional, used after testing to remove residual magnetism.
- Control console: For operation and parameter control.
Applications:
- Seamless and welded pipe manufacturing.
- Pipe threading plants.
- Inspection after machining or finishing processes.
- Quality control in pipeline fabrication.
