Induction Stress Relieving (with pictures, videos, applications)

What’s Induction Stress Relieving?

To induction stress relieving, annealed casting, forging and welding parts produce internal stress due to each part’s different cooling speed during cooling. Internal stresses also occur in metals and alloys during cold deformation and workpiece cutting. If the internal stress is large and not removed in time, often leads to workpiece deformation and even crack formation. InductionStress-relieving annealing is to heat the workpiece slowly at a lower temperature (for example, gray cast iron is 500 ~ 550℃, steel is 500 ~ 650℃), holding for a period of time, so that the metal’s internal relaxation, and then slowly cooling down. It should be noted that the induction stress relieving annealing does not completely remove the internal stress, but only partially, thereby eliminating its harmful effects. Induction Stress-relieving treatment, an induction heat treatment method.  Used to eliminate residual stress in materials after induction welding, induction quenching and installation.

Why Use Induction Stress Relieving?

In precision parts processing, there are a lot of parts after precision machining equipment, always is unqualified, is processed after the inspection confirmed on the machine, everything is so perfect, but with the machine, after sent to QC room, or the next working procedure, found that size has quietly changed, the original perfect a product has become a waste, annoying!  But how to avoid this undesirable occurrence?  That is to use a very important process, that is the material “induction stress relieving ” process, that is, low-temperature induction annealing treatment. Then when is better to use the induction stress relieving process annealing?

Induction stress-relieving annealing is a heat treatment process that heats steel or various metal mechanical parts to a certain temperature, keeps them warm for a period of time, and then cools them slowly to get close to equilibrium state structure.  In the machinery manufacturing industry, annealing is usually used as a preparatory induction heat treatment process in the workpiece manufacturing process.

Due to the difference in material composition, processing method, internal stress size, and distribution, and the difference in removal degree, the range of induction stress relieving annealing temperature is very wide.  Traditionally, the induction stress relieving treatment at higher temperatures is called the induction stress relieving annealing process, while the treatment at lower temperatures is called induction stress relieving tempering, which is essentially the same.

The internal stress that exists in the parts of fine processing besides dimension assures, still be very harmful actually, if not eliminate in time, internal stress and external load force, namely in use process apply the force that process is superimposed together when still can cause the material to produce accident fracture.  So workpiece after casting, welding, and machining should do the induction stress relieving process, to eliminate internal stress generated in the machining process, so when you are always in hardships in the process or can not do a good part, or your customers tell you your parts in use process accident off, consider induction stress relieving annealing process, this process will help you to solve many problems.

What Is Induction Stress Relieving Application?

In the real induction heat treatment production period, induction stress-relieving annealing processes are much more widely used. It is mainly used to eliminate residual stress of castings, forgings, welds, hot rolled parts, cold drawn parts, etc. If these stresses are not relieved, It will cause deformation or cracks in the steel parts after a certain time or in the subsequent cutting process. According to energy-saving understanding, hot forging rolling, forging casting, all kinds of cold deformation processing, cutting, induction welding, induction heat treatment, and even machine parts after assembly. The process of heating steel or machine parts at a lower temperature to do the induction stress relieving process and reduce the tendency of deformation and cracking without changing the state of the organization, keeping the condition of cold working, hot working, or surface induction hardening, can be called induction stress-relieving annealing.
